Celebrating the Impact of FACCES Families in December & January

As we kick off the new year, let’s take a moment to celebrate some of the amazing things that happened at FACCES in December and January!

On December 19th, the FACCES Family Cooking Class was held, where families and their children joined Chef Donte to cook up a delicious meal. The highlight of the class was the Parmesan-crusted tilapia, made with fish raised in the FACCES Urban Garden Greenhouse. They also whipped up mashed potatoes and sautéed greens—a true farm-to-table experience. We’re excited to announce that the last cooking class will be on February 6, 2025, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. If you’d like to join the fun, sign up through the link below.

Another highlight was the FACCES Fresh Market, where fresh produce is accessible to the community, whether families drove up, walked, or had their produce delivered. These events are held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, ALL YEAR ROUND! If you are interested in learning more and how your family can participate, click below and RSVP!

In January, we represented our children and families at the Growing and Growth Collective Communitea at the Martin Luther King Library. Food Pillar Director, Kori, was invited to speak at this inspiring event, which brought together local organizations working toward the common goal of food security, food education, and equity through urban gardening. It was an amazing opportunity to connect with like-minded organizations, and we’re especially excited to continue our partnership with Growing and Growth Collective through upcoming Urban Gardeners’ Gatherings on February 20th and March 20th, 2025. Be sure to sign up here to join us!

Lastly, we’re thrilled to introduce Misty, the new Urban Garden Educator who joined the FACCES team in early January. Misty has already made incredible contributions to our greenhouse and garden, bringing a wealth of knowledge and a passion for gardening that will undoubtedly help our community thrive. Be sure to stop by the greenhouse and say hello next time you’re at FACCES!
