Food: Urban Gardeners Gathering – Digging into Soil Health

Join FACCES for an interactive Urban Gardeners Gathering in partnership with Central State University, focused on building the knowledge and skills needed for successful growing. This session, Soil Health, Types & Testing, takes a closer look at the foundation of every garden—your soil.

During this gathering, participants will learn how to identify different soil types, understand the key components of healthy soil, and explore how soil quality impacts plant growth. Through hands-on activities, attendees will conduct soil testing and create a soil texture jar test to better understand what’s in their soil and how to improve it.

Designed for beginner and experienced gardeners alike, this session offers practical, science-based insight you can apply directly to your garden or growing space.
