For July’s “Faces of FACCES,” we are spotlighting Nkeelah and Debraylin’s family! Since becoming involved with FACCES, their family has participated in several Family Gatherings and taken advantage of opportunities to connect with other families while gaining valuable tools and resources. They even attended the most recent FACCES Family Gathering to celebrate their daughter’s pre-school graduation!
Through their participation, Nkeelah and Debraylin have learned lessons that extend far beyond a single event. They share how FACCES has helped them think intentionally about breaking generational patterns and creating a positive foundation for their children. They have also gained new perspectives on how to encourage their children’s voices and helping them feel empowered.
“I like the fact that there are a lot of things that include the children, like the cooking classes and gardening. I’ve found ways to include my two-year-old, he helps me wash the dishes or helps me cook,” Nkeelah said.
One event that stands out to their family is March Dadness. The experience gave them an opportunity to have fun, while connecting with others and celebrating the importance of family engagement. “I liked seeing all the dads in the community and all the resources that were out there, it was nice,” Nkeelah said.
For Nkeelah and Debraylin, the greatest impact of FACCES is the feeling of family. Whether they are attending a Family Gathering, participating in a special event, or simply connecting with other families, they know they are part of a community that cares.
“It’s been wonderful; it’s very family-oriented here,” Debraylin said.
We are grateful to have Nkeelah, Debraylin , and their family as part of the FACCES community. Their commitment to growth, connection, and supporting their children serves as a reminder that when families are empowered, communities thrive!
