🌍 The Bexley Freedge — Community Food Resource (Bexley, OH)
What It Is
The Bexley Freedge is a free community refrigerator and freezer designed to:
- Reduce food waste
- Support neighbors facing food insecurity
- Provide fresh, perishable, frozen, and shelf-stable foods through a “take what you need, leave what you can” model.
It functions like a Little Free Pantry, but with cold storage so perishable foods can be shared safely.

Hours: Open all day, every day — 24/7 public access.

âś… For Neighbors in Need
- Take food at no cost, no questions asked
- Be mindful: take only what you will use so others can benefit too
- Food is consumed at your own risk — simple, stigma-free access.
âś… For Donors
You can donate food or support operations by:
- Donating suitable food anytime (see guidelines below)
- Signing up for scheduled donation slots
- Helping with maintenance checks to keep the Freedge clean and functional
- Giving a financial donation via Bexley Natural Market or the Bexley Community Foundation (funds used to stock food)
🍎 Donation Guidelines
Please leave only food that meets these criteria:
Acceptable items
- Whole produce (fruit, vegetables)
- Sealed beverages
- Frozen packaged foods
- Shelf-stable items (canned goods)
- Prepackaged food from licensed kitchens or retailers
- Items labeled with date and ingredients/allergens
Do NOT donate
- Opened or previously served foods
- Homemade meals not compliant with Ohio cottage food laws
- Restaurant doggy bags or unlabeled items

You can help by:
- Donating food or funds
- Checking on the Freedge regularly
- Connecting with local food rescue and mutual aid groups (like Columbus Food Rescue or Ro’s Kitchen) for broader involvement
