Building Life Skills, One Meal at a Time

FACCES Life Ready teens started the project of building FACCES Kitchen in 2023. This wouldn’t be just a place to learn how to cook for them—it was intended to be a space where they took ownership of their legacies. Built by the youth, for the youth, FACCES Kitchen is about hands on learning. The teens have managed everything from menu planning to managing a small business, gaining skills they’ll carry with them into the workforce and beyond. It’s not just about cooking—it’s about developing life skills.

In the kitchen, the teens are learning how to create careers, not just meals. They take on real-world tasks like budgeting, customer service, and organizing the kitchen’s daily operations. They even source fresh produce from the FACCES Urban Garden, ensuring everything they prepare is fresh and healthy. By handling all aspects of the kitchen, the teens are getting invaluable experience that sets them up for success not just in the culinary world, but in any path that they decide to choose.

Working as a team, students rotate through different roles—chef, manager, server—and each role teaches them how to collaborate, problem-solve, and lead. Whether they’re managing the budget, interacting with customers, or preparing meals, these experiences help them grow into strong, capable leaders, ready to take on whatever comes next in life.
