Empowering Youth Through Food Safety: Celebrating Joshua Burke’s and Columbus Public Health

As we welcome March 2025, we want to shine a spotlight on Joshua Burke from Columbus Public Health and the amazing work he’s doing with the youth at FACCES. Over the past year, Josh has become a valued partner at FACCES, offering his expertise to the kitchen program and these past few months teaching our teens essential food safety skills, from the basics of cooking temperatures and proper food storage to washing hands and keeping everything safe in the kitchen. “The teens at FACCES are eager to learn, and their curiosity always surprises me. It’s rewarding to see them get that ‘aha’ moment when they finally understand something,” says Josh.

Josh shared more about his work with the teens, saying, “I love seeing that spark when they realize the importance of food safety, not just for themselves but for the people they serve. They get it, and it’s amazing to watch them apply that knowledge right away.”
Josh’s involvement is helping the FACCES Life Ready Ohio participants build confidence, and hands-on skills they can use in the kitchen and in their daily lives. It’s not just about cooking; it’s about empowering them to take ownership of their health and well-being.
If you have a youth that is interested in culinary arts & education, enroll your child in the FACCES Spring/Summer Program today and contact education@thefacces.org, or call us at (614) 491-9800.
