For May’s “Faces of FACCES”, we are proud to spotlight the Epps family! Jaleesa and her three kids first came to FACCES to be a part of the March edition of the seasonal cooking class.
“I decided to bring them to the cooking class because it’s something new. It’s something that I wanted us to experience as a family; and they love cooking at home,” Epps said.
At home, cooking is already a shared joy for the Epps’. Her three 6-year olds are eager helpers in the kitchen. “They can use the toaster by themselves. They can use the microwave with supervision. They love making toast and eggs and sandwiches and plated fruits and such,” she explained. “So I just wanted to further that creativity and that interest in food for them.”
Their enthusiasm for cooking carried into their experience at our seasonal cooking class, as it was structured with the families in mind.

“When we first came, there were three high chairs provided for my children… and there was a recipe card in front of us, and we received some instruction from the instructor,” Epps said. “It went really, really well.”
The hands-on nature of the class made it especially memorable. Her children eagerly participated in each step- mixing, pouring, and embracing the messiness that comes with learning.
“My kids, they enjoyed stirring and adding things. My son got flour all over him—literally from head to toe—but it’s fine. It was really fun,” Epps said.
Through families like the Epps’, we at FACCES are always striving to build community through each shared experience. Like Jaleesa said- “come on and join an activity, participate!”
