August Faces of FACCES: United Way of Central Ohio

For August Faces of FACCES, we are recognizing a partner whose commitment to strengthening families and expanding educational opportunities continues to make a lasting impact: United Way of Central Ohio. Partnerships like this make lasting change possible. United Way has played a vital role in the growth of the FACCES Independence Ready program, helping expand opportunities for students and families while strengthening support throughout the community. As Melanie Hill, United Way’s Director of Data Analysis and State Lead for ALICE, shared, “I think one of the things that makes this collaboration meaningful is both of our organizations doing what we do well and then walking alongside each other together for this kind of a common mission of supporting the families and the students.” Hill also reflected on how each organization brings unique strengths to the partnership, creating greater impact by working together. “So, where you guys are more boots on

July Faces of FACCES: Nkeelah & Debraylen

For July’s “Faces of FACCES,” we are spotlighting Nkeelah and Debraylin’s family! Since becoming involved with FACCES, their family has participated in several Family Gatherings and taken advantage of opportunities to connect with other families while gaining valuable tools and resources. They even attended the most recent FACCES Family Gathering to celebrate their daughter’s pre-school graduation!  Through their participation, Nkeelah and Debraylin have learned lessons that extend far beyond a single event. They share how FACCES has helped them think intentionally about breaking generational patterns and creating a positive foundation for their children. They have also gained new perspectives on how to encourage their children’s voices and helping them feel empowered.  “I like the fact that there are a lot of things that include the children, like the cooking classes and gardening. I’ve found ways to include my two-year-old, he helps me wash the dishes or helps me cook,” Nkeelah said.  One event that stands out to their family is March Dadness. The experience gave them an opportunity to have fun, while connecting with

June Faces of FACCES: SWACO

For June, we are excited to highlight SWACO as our “Faces of FACCES”. SWACO, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, serves the community through innovative waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing the reliance on landfills and creating a healthier environment for future generations.   “We love partnering with organizations, especially at the ground level, that are in the community working with residents. We want to be an assistant and help those organizations because you guys really are the boots on the ground, and we want just to support your efforts in the community,” SWACO Education Specialist Kim Chapman said.  Chapman facilitates tours of the landfills and also handles education efforts within the community to connect Central Ohio residents with practical ways to reduce waste and make more sustainable choices in their everyday lives. Through educational programming, partnerships and public engagement, Chapman and the SWACO team are helping build a more environmentally conscious community.   “Part of what we
