Columbus, OH — FACCES (Family, Adolescent & Child Community Engagement Services) is proud to announce that it has been honored with the 2024 Turnip the Beet! Award in the Gold Category for Ohio, recognizing the organization’s commitment to serving high-quality, nutritious, and appealing meals to children during the summer months.
Presented annually by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Turnip the Beet! Awards celebrate outstanding summer meal program sponsors nationwide who go above and beyond to combat food insecurity and support children’s health during the summer break.
“Summer can be one of the hungriest times of the year for children who rely on school meals. At FACCES, we see every meal as an opportunity, not just to feed, but to nurture and uplift,” said Kori Johnson, food pillar director at FACCES. “We’re honored to receive this recognition and remain committed to ensuring all children in our community have access to meals that are both nutritious and delicious.”
FACCES’ summer meals program is part of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), also known as SUN Meals, which plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity during the summer months. With a focus on fresh, culturally relevant foods, engaging meal sites, and strong partnerships with local food producers, FACCES ensures that its programming meets both nutritional standards and community needs.
This Gold-level recognition places FACCES among a select group of summer meal sponsors across the country who meet the USDA’s highest standards for nutrition quality, meal appeal, and program integrity. The award also aligns with USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins’ priorities to connect farmers with nutrition assistance programs, promote healthy families, and inspire innovative approaches to federal nutrition services.
